Saturday evening was the closing party for the San Diego
Latin Film Festival, well…it was more than just a party, it was a Soiree a Gala
even! There were at least 200 people that filled the VIP section in the US
Grant Lounge, and then spilled out into the ballroom where there was a live
band and salsa dancing. The red carpet and step and repeat was frequented by
Latin celebs and fabulous San Diego designers alike. Check out the picture of me and Latino actor Jose Maria Yazpik. Overall it was a
tremendous showing of pride and accomplishment in the Latino Community here in
San Diego.
Special thanks to Samya Barud who coordinated all the VIP
Latino talent, as well as Yolanda Meade who hosted the event. Both ladies had
their game faces on the entire night and because of them and all the other
faithful festival volunteers the event was a huge success.
Thursday evening after the fashion show at Bloomingdales
Kellie Nail and I headed off to Neiman Marcus where our good friend Michael Lee
was throwing an intimate styling event. We breezed through the doors and I was
overtaken by all of the energy in the room. The DJ was phenomenal and everyone
was incredibly friendly and outgoing.
Michael is a partner in A Style Concierge downtown at 815 F
Street, and WOW, is he a character. He sees to the salon half of the
establishment and sisters Minét and Natalie Taylor head up the
boutique half.
The Fashion, Finance and Philanthropy event hosted by Bloomingdales, The Women’s History Museum and Education Center and Meryll Lynch also featured a styled fashion show of modern day work attire.
Last night I was invited by jewelry designer and public
relations specialist Sarah Sweeney to an event that benefitted the Women’s
History Museum and Education Center (WHMEC). The event Fashion, Finance and
Philanthropy, was attended by collection of fashion mavens, designers, and
members of the board at the WHMEC. Overall the vibe was very fun! There was a
mini fashion show with four models/WHMEC volunteers showcasing workplace fashions
from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
As many of you know we are in the full swing of the Latin
Film Festival here in San Diego. Famous Latino Actors, Screenwriters,
Directors, Producers and VIPS are scattered all throughout our beautiful city
until the 21st, and until then there are plenty of parties and
goodtimes to go around!
I enjoyed this Monday night in the company of San Diego's most devoted fashion crowd. George Bates and Diana Cavagnaro of Fashion Group International, better known as FGI, hosted a lovely mixer at Royal India on Market. Guests sampled delicious appetizers, mingled with like-minded fashionistas, and had the opportunity to get to know Jesus Estrada.
Best Sunday Ever, hosted by Kellie Nail yesterday at the
Treo Building held a mini fashion show I wanted to highlight; designs from labels Petra O, Holywood Million Denim, Stacie May,
Lust for Luxe, and Alejera Jewels were featured. Here are the best
pieces from the show.
Kellie Nail hosted Best Sunday Ever yesterday downtown in
the cozy community room of the Treo building and outside in a common area for
residents. The intimate event included a mini fashion show, a collection of
local merchants selling their wares, a spray tan set up, and area where facials
were being performed.
Also our MAKEOVER WINNER Samya came with me, she is featured above with Kellie Nail and the generous donars of her facial and cut and color!
The Nordstrom Spring 2010 Designer Review was by far the
most high-fashion event I have yet attended as a member of fashionstreet. Watch
the finale here, with featured designers Donna Karen, Missoni,
Versace, Dries Van Noten, Jason Wu, Dolce and Gabbana, Michael Kors, Marni,
Emilio Pucci, Lanvin and Oscar de la Renta.
Last night was the pre-party for the San Diego
Latin Film Festival on the rooftop at Se hotel. There was alcohol flowing,
music blaring, salsa dancing, and most of all lots and lots of elbow rubbing.
Yes, mingling was the name of the game and in a crowd of such movers and
shakers in the Latino community it’s a wonder I had a moment to sit down all
evening.
I attended the Nordstrom Spring 2010 Designer
Preview downtown at the New Children’s Museum. The event was truly a full
fledged fashion show with the spring lines from Donna Karen, Missoni, Versace,
Dries Van Noten, Jason Wu, Dolce and Gabbana, Michael Kors, Marni, Emilio
Pucci, Lanvin and Oscar de la Renta all strutting down the runway.
The venue, the attendees, the fashion show, the hors
d’oeuvres, were all fabulous!
Saturday evening I headed over to JUNC Boutique in South
Park to an event I was invited to by TRIAX Public Relations Firm.
The overall feel of the boutique is very Urban
Outfiters-esque; it boasts a global fashion motif with many of the pieces
appealing to those of us who enjoy wearing clothes that appear as though they
were bought along the way on our world travels.
The fundraiser put on by Kids for Peace and local boutique It's a Luv Thing was a complete success. There were over 100 guests who attended on Friday night, regardless the threat of rain.
Kids for Peace stated they have well over the money they needed for the peace packs, so all the additional money is being given STRAIGHT to a connection in Haiti, "the grass roots way" and will help build the orphanage and make a difference in a lot of lives.
You never know what to expect when a north county boutique throws an event. I was absolutely blown away by the turnout for Encinitas stores Dreamy and Mog & Rue. Perhaps it was the free reflexology massages, manicures, eyebrow waxing, romantic fortune reading, or gifts that kept people lingering. Either way it was worth the wait for my turn while I mingled, sipped on champagne, and ate truffles.
Rain can not keep devote shoppers at bay! The best part about a sidewalk sale is the fact that clothes on rolling racks can easily be rolled right in the doors of the shop, and the sale can keep on keepin' on!
Two great boutiques came together on Saturday to form a super fun event. Mog & Rue from Encinitas drove down to partner up with Cecilia Boutique and the result was one heck of a sale! I enjoyed a champange mimosa and cheese and crackers while I browsed the racks of clothes and tried on jewelry.
Saturday was a very special event hosted by Handmade Revolution. The show involved 8 local designers and artists who work in a sort of co-op environment to bring San Diego their goods.
Even though the rain was making for some lazy day feelings, I didn't want to miss this great chance to see the show. And apparently I wasn't alone! The little yellow house in Golden Hill was packed... PACKED! It was no wonder either, they had awesome snacks and live music. I really didn't want to leave.
I’ve always been excited by the idea of being inside a
designer department store when it’s closed to the public, and last night I was
able to live out that fantasy at the MAC Spring Colour Forecast at Nordstrom
North County. I was whisked through the glass doors of Nordstrom, checked in on
the guest list, escorted to the escalator by a MAC associate, and as I turned
to face the crowd that had gathered I was amazed by the sheer number of people
who apparently share the same dream I do.
I stopped by ASR during their second and last day, Thursday the 4th. It was kind of a ghost town! Vendors gave the excuse that everybody partied so hard the night before, that people were just hung over. Well with this crowd, I don't really doubt that.
Cady put on a panel discussion this past Wednesday night at the W Hotel. The topic was supposed to be about the social implications of fashion. However, I am not sure they ever really stayed on topic long enough to figure that out! This was definitely one of the most disorganized discussions I've ever heard.
