I LOVE Milena Silvano. She is a London based stylist deeply rooted in the fashion design industry. As well as the nostalgic visions of yesteryear her styling portrays, she also designs a small collection of women's dresses.
Her methodology of design seems to fall perfectly in line with our bohemian San Diegan/California health nut mentality. Hand coloring her cloth with vegetable based dyes, this collection is eco-friendly and attractive... something I find rare in today's hippie hippie shake designers.
"I believe in a glamourous life. And I live in a glamorous life." I think we can all agree with her statement... Written exclusively for this for this collaboration, Lady Gaga composed a beautiful piano song that flows throughout this short film. She teamed up with Dazed Ditigal and fashion film maker Kathryn Ferguson and took these shots during London show rehearsals.
The film is supposed to show Lady Gaga's love of fashion pioneers, and as we all have seen over and over, she thinks outside the box when it invovles outfitting herself. However sometimes when it comes to these collaborations, the films come off more as an excuse for an artsy filmmaker to let out some creativitity, take some abstract shots, and then it's as if they say, "Ok, now lets make up some reason why we made this. What can we call this and why?" Ah ha! Lady Gaga's love of odd fashion!!!
With bloggers
in the front row of fashion weeks, live streaming runway shows, and the explosion
of fashion ecommerce sites; fashion has made a digital shift. Out of this
digital paradigm has emerged a new art form and marketing channel - the fashion
film. The La Jolla Fashion Film Festival (LJFFF) sets out to embrace the
proliferation of this new digital media genre with the debut of first annual
fashion film festival in America.
These evolutionary events in the world of fashion
will begin on Friday, April 23, 2010 and will conclude with a cinematic finale
on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The events will take place in and around La
Jolla's pristine coastline, parks, bays and famous Prospect Avenue, offering
attendees a world-class seaside resort experience.
This Sunday, March 7, ArtPower! at UCSD will be hosting theGreen

theThe Loftlocated on the 2nd floor of

and eco-friendly fashion by Green Envy Clothing and +E (Positive Energy). The

As promised, I bring you another artsy fashion film to wet your appetite for the upcoming LJFFF. This one was just released in London's 2010 Fashion Week by Matthew Miller.
Deemed one of the top 20 fashion graduates of 2009, Miller continually dissects the way society has been conditioned to view masculinity. He has traveled extensively to find inspiration for his designs, and I can definitely pick up on the eastern influence in these portrayals. I'm not entirely sure what the message is entailing here, but from a personal standpoint, I ask, "Are you mocking masculinity, or embracing it?"
I am getting more and more antsy for the fashion film festival that will be hosted in La Jolla in April. In honor of this exciting event taking place, I'll be periodically sharing some of the interesting fashion films I come across. Enjoy!
This one comes all the way from a Swedish designer named Saga Eckman. She designs around the fun of dressing up, the woman's silhouette, and playful expression. Saga Lova's spring/summer 2010 collection is reflective of trends here too. Have you noticed every store window adorned with nautical themed apparel? She follows suit with reds, whites, blues, and stripes.
Prada recently released the fashion short film for their Spring/Summer 2010 menswear collection. Collaborating with Chinese artist Yang Fudon, the film portrays a traditional philosophy that “the whole year's work depends on a good start in
spring." Hence the name of the contemporary flick, "First Spring".
However, watch this film under the influence of this commentator's theory on the plot, and tell me if you get another meaning of the title.
