Spotlight on Design: A Nod to TopShop

Neiman Marcus is a Tremendous Source for Fashion Events

One of the primary goals of our website is to be a hub of information; we strive to provide our readers with insight into the fashion events happening in San Diego.

Neiman Marcus in Fashion Valley is one of the highly under-utilized sources of events. As a high fashion department store they hold trunk shows with all the top design houses, bring in the industry’s best stylists and designers, and make it incredibly accessible for ALL of us here in San Diego to attend.

Here is the schedule of upcoming events at Neiman’s.  What stands out especially is the Roberto Cavalli trunk show, The Edward Wilkerson Meet and Greet, and the Escada Special Presentation.

Pop-Up Sweetheart Shoppe

Today I visited a very sweet set up, hidden from the traffic of San Diego, but just close enough to reflect the style of the trendy yet off-beat boutiques of the surrounding Hillcrest neighborhoods.

Set in a cute little salon called Shear Paradise in Mission Hills, this "pop-up" shop hosts an eclectic mix of vintage, upcycled, and swanky gifts perfect for this upcoming Valentine's Day.

Saks Fifth Avenue Gets it Right with Aggressive Angles

 

I am a chronic online “window shopper”. I LOVE browsing fashion sites and taking note of what direction designers are taking the fashion industry. I feel that luxury department stores often over-generalize trends, but as I was “shopping” today I realized that Saks Fifth Avenue hit it right on… they currently feature 3 links highlighting the current trends which they believe are “All American”, “Beyond Boho”, and “Aggressive Angles”.

 

I’m personally not feeling the All American prep look for Spring, nor do I feel calling out Boho fashion as warmer months approach genius, but the Aggressive Angles trend I feel is incredibly insightful. Furthermore as I scrolled the pages over I fell in LOVE with a multitude of the garments, which span a wide variety of price points…here are my choices for best Aggressive Angle garments.

Anthropologie's Spring Windows

Once again, while walking past Anthropolgie in the UTC mall, I noticed another sudo-recycled window design!

If you remember my post on their last set of winter windows, you will recall the question, "do they actually recycle these things for their displays, or just play it off like they do?"  What is their fascination with using everyday items like phone books, rulers, and water bottles?

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Spring 2010 at Fashion Valley Mall

The Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Spring 2010 knitwear collection for women and girls will arrive in around 200 H&M stores on February 20, 2010 -- AND FASHION VALLEY MALL IS ONE OF THEM.

So, I totally love black and white with pop colors.

Sonia Rykiel’s earlier lingerie collection was quite impressive, but this is whimsical ready-to-wear funky fashion at its finest. It’s obvious I’m digging the horizontal stripes and the ballooned yet fitted silhouettes.

Cecilia Boutique (formerly Christie's Boutique) in Mission Hills

Elizabeth Leffler-Agia is the owner of Cecilia Boutique, a chic woman's clothing and accessory shop located in Mission Hills.

Elizabeth has always proved to be passionate about styling and personal shopping. She has over seven years as a fashion stylist and she strongly believes every woman should love what she is wearing.

Brass Plum and Be Done...

The best kind of shopping is the kind when you don't really need anything, you're just meandering around, and there is no pressure.  That is when you no doubtingly find something you fall madly in love with.  But I despise shopping when I actually need something, and even worse, when I've got the vision in my head of what I want.

I needed new boots.  I parked near Nordstrom's and checked out the BP shoes section.  AMAZING selection for the best prices, and I immediately found my dream boots.  Of course they didn't have my size, but they assured me they could order them for me anyway.

Well I need these boots NOW, for tonight.  So I decided to scour the rest of the mall looking for some that might stack up.  Once the bar is set, and you know what you want, shopping is impossible.

I went in every, single department store and every, single shoe store IN FASHION VALLEY looking for what I wanted.  Now I can say with certainty, the first place I went, had by far the best selection.  They have a table where all the boots are under $100 and that table is crammed full of beautiful, beautiful boots.  Even drifting outside this table, the selection is unbeatable. 

Now that I let you in on a little secret, don't bother traipsing around for three hours like I did.  Just hit up Brass Plum and be done.
